Handwashing assist or foul? We all follow in the footsteps, handprints\u2014and germs\u2014of everyone who has gone before us. (Not to mention\u00a0the stranger who is sitting next to us right now.)<\/p>\n

Handwashing pundits know\u00a0proper\u00a0handwashing is the most effective way to kill those germs and prevent the spread of illness,\u00a0so we’re launching a new project\u2014a social, visual declaration to all of mankind\u00a0that we MUST\u00a0wash our hands: #handhygienx.<\/strong><\/p>\n

To encourage the handwashing-averse or\u00a0neglectful public to get on board,\u00a0we’re\u00a0leveraging picture and video sharing on social media to collectively capture\u00a0<\/strong>handwashing habits\u2014be it assists or fouls\u2014through the lens of the camera\/phone-wielding public. This project\u00a0isn\u2019t just for infection control specialists, germophobes, or epidemiologists (although they\u2019ll love it). It\u2019s a campaign is for all of mankind; we\u00a0humans who work, play, eat, shop, learn, touch, breathe, and live in the mire of life every day.<\/p>\n

All things will be at play here, including (and hopefully) the good stuff. We’d love to see\u00a0people washing their hands correctly\u00a0or\u00a0wearing gloves when appropriate;\u00a0businesses that post\u00a0encouraging handwashing signs;\u00a0stores making disinfecting wipes readily available; maybe even videos of adults\u00a0washing their hands while they sing the ABC song twice through (or the equivalent of the required 20-seconds it takes to kill germs). If it’s for the good of all mankind,\u00a0share it.<\/p>\n

The bad (unfortunately) will also be at play, from\u00a0man-on-the street nose pickers to woman-on-the-street \u201cfree\u201d sneezers. See a restaurant worker leaving the\u00a0restroom without washing his or herhands? Capture it. Handwash hygienx will put a spotlight on all of the contaminators and cross-contaminators out there in society. You know who they are and it’s\u00a0time to shame them.<\/p>\n

The rules are SIMPLE: When you see a handwashing hygienx (good or foul), snap a picture with your mobile device and upload it to Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or Google+ with the hashtag: #handhygienx.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
